HATE and HATEFUL SPEECH

Activity ONE

 

3 international mixed groups (in breakout rooms) discussing the following questions (15-20 mins):

 

1) What do you imagine under the term hate speech?

2) Where do you think hate and hateful speeches come from?

3) Do you have any personal experience with hateful behaviour/hate speech?

4) What can be done about it?

Activity TWO

Debating contest (2 teams and one team of judges, 40 mins):

 

Hateful speech is a part of freedom of speech, it should not be considered a criminal offence.

 

YES, we agree with the statement – Team 1

NO, we disagree with the statement – Team 2

 

1) 10 minute final preparation for argument presentation (roles distribution: speakers, note keepers)

2) Presentation of arguments Team 1 and Team 2

3) Responses of both teams to each other´s arguments

4) Judges: additional questions, response requests

5) Judges: short meeting and verdict

 

Team of judges decide on the winning team based on how well the teams argued for their case.
